The Atrocities….

Part of what we do at Unbridled Heroes is try and advocate for our Mustangs and slaughter bound horses. Next Tuesday, The Devil’s Garden wild horses in California are facing a roundup of 1000 mustangs. These wild horses are managed by the Forest Service and not the BLM, so they have little to no protection at this point. The younger horses will go to the BLM corrals in Litchfield and be put up for adoption however over 300 horses that are over ten years old will only be available for thirty days and then will be sold for $1.00.

All of this is so incredibly awful, to imagine these herds being ripped apart from one another, with little to no chance of being rehomed somewhere safe is heartbreaking. There is so much that could have been done differently and we can still push for the roundups to be staggered to give these souls a better chance. 43093382_1722587091217786_740954834349326336_o

Skydog Sanctuary had the following information: The Devil’s Garden Plateau Wild Horse Territory is located in California roughly 5 miles north of Alturas. The territory consists of 300,000 acres of Forest Service land and 8,300 acres of Bureau of Land Management land. Wild horses have been present on the Devil’s Garden Plateau for more than 140 years.

What WE can do to stand up for these horses —–

1. Call the Modoc National Forest at (530) 233-5811. Please be polite and respectful but let them know that you strongly oppose their plan to allow federally-protected wild horses to be sold for slaughter. Request that the Forest Service implement a humane management plan for the Devils Garden horses that protects them from being sent to slaughter.

2. Send an email, write or fax to Modoc National Forest Supervisor Amanda McAdams at

Skydog Sanctuary has been phenomenal in getting the word out about this round up. The Unbridled Heroes Project has called the Modac National Forest and spoke with a gentleman who would not give me his name and stumbled through his answers. He then gave me the number 530-233-8738, which was no help as well. We will follow-up with a call to the state representative for that area. The thought of them heading to slaughter is just so so wrong.
